Jorge Lopez (1968-2009)

 Jorge Lopez

Jorge Lopez passed away June 26, 2009 in Chicago, Illinois of a heart attack. Jorge was born April 23, 1968 in Mexicali, Mexico. He was 41.
Jorge graduated from Yuma High School in 1985 and ran the Gone Fishin' Pet Shop in Oxford, Mississippi with his partner Rodney Pearson. He was also employed by Rego Law firm in San Diego, California. Jorge was a member of the Michigan Panthers flag football team, various softball leagues and was previously a member of the San Diego American Flag Football League.
He was a sweet, tender soul that left us much too soon. His infectious smile and tender heart will continue to live within each person he came across. The ability to make each one of us feel as though we were the most important part of his life. His jet-setting trips to play softball or flag football. His gift with children as they could see and feel his youthful spirit. Jorge was a true son, cousin, uncle, nephew, friend and will truly be missed. We will see you on the other side.
A visitation will be held Friday, July 3, 2009 from 2-7PM at the Yuma Mortuary with a wake to follow and to be officiated by Deacon Rafael Vidal. Jorge's final resting place will be in Oxford, Mississippi. Memorial services to follow in San Diego and will be held Tuesday July 7, 2009 at The Alano Club located at 1730 Monroe Ave, San Diego, CA 92116. Following the memorial, there will be a gathering at Bourbon Street from 5-7PM.
The Jorge Lopez Memorial Fund has been established through Wells Fargo Bank to assist with funeral expenses. Donations can be made via PayPal by following the link below. Please use the email address jasonhefley@yahoo.com when making your donation to Jorge's fund. Thank you.

Mission Statement

The San Diego American Flag Football League (SDAFFL) seeks to promote the positive social and athletic enjoyment of American Flag Football. Through our league, our events and most importantly our members, we also seek to foster and augment the self-respect of GLBTQA (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning and Allied) persons and to engender respect and understanding from the larger community.

While particular emphasis is placed on these specific goals, it is a fundamental principle of the SDAFFL that all activities, social and athletic, are conducted to be inclusive in nature and that no individual shall be excluded from participating on the basis of sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, race, religion, nationality, ethnic origin, political beliefs, athletic ability, physical challenge, or HIV status.

"In short, in life, as in a foot-ball game, the principle to follow is: Hit the line hard; don't foul and don't shirk, but hit the line hard!" -- Theodore Roosevelt
